[Freebase-discuss] Converting Freebase mid to integer

I am working with the Freebase quad dump. I am trying to efficiently
store the mid in my data structure. I want to know if there is an easy
way to convert the mid into an integer. I can use a hash function, but
would like to know if there is  a better way. It looks like (I may be
wrong) the mid is some form of representation of an underlying binary
value but I cannot figure out what the representation is.
