The Sports Team type has general and historical properties (Sport, Founded,
Colors, Arena/Stadium, etc.) along with properties related to competitions
(Championships, Season Record, etc.), maybe it was better to have only the
first ones. The property "Championships" has been used for everything a team
has won, but the Sports League Championship Event type and all the schema is
not so general.

> A Team has a roster. That which does not have a roster is not a Team.

> A _____ (Side? Partnership?) has members of some sort.

> A Sports Competition has Competitors; Competitors may be Persons, the
> unknown type above, or a Team.

> The partnership may even be avoidable with non-unique competitors.

I substantially agree with Christopher.

About relay race I can say competitors tipically represent a country or a
club, then we need a way to model this relationship (for example as we do in
the Multi-event schema). However I think relay race competitors are not
considered strictly a team and at this moment I don't see reasons to type
them as "Sports Team".
If we need to represent statistics about Williams sisters or the Jamaican
sprint relay quartet Carter, Frater, Bolt, Powell is necessary a topic about
them ? I hope no.
If we need statistics about all the Jamaican sprint relay teams, we can get
them if we modeled the relationships as I said before.

P.S. Why Freebase has two or more places for discussions ?
