There is really no substitute for just poking around the Explore view 
and seeing how things work, e.g. <URL: 
https://www.freebase.com/tools/explore/music/artist >.

You can also see the schema for schema at <URL: 
https://www.freebase.com/type/schema/type/type >, and some important 
hints used by the client are in <URL: 
https://www.freebase.com/type/schema/freebase/type_profile >.

Similarly, property is at <URL: 
https://www.freebase.com/type/schema/type/property > and some useful 
hints are at <URL: 
https://www.freebase.com/type/schema/freebase/property_hints >.
