Hey folks -
IANAL but I had to implement this "feature": As of the next release
(that just hit sandbox-freebase.com an hour or two ago, headed to www.freebase.com
in the next few days) we'll be limiting image thumbnails served via
the /api/trans/image_thumb service to 150px in width or height, if the
image does not have a specific license, or if the license is "/en/
fair_use"
Mainly these are images that we can't guarantee the origin of, and it
has become common practice not to return full-sized images if a
service can't determine the origin of the image. (for example, google
image search...)
So if you're uploading images to freebase, make sure you mark them
with the right license!
I hope this isn't a big issue for folks, but if you have trouble with
particular images, (like they scale funny as a result of this or
something) please do post back to the developer list with specific
example URLs.
And yes, we'll happily return image thumbnails of any size if they
have other licenses like any of the CreativeCommons ones.
Quesitons? Comments?
Alec
