[Developers] Freebase newbie: simple question

I have a simple need. I think Freebase would be perfect for it.

Given the full name or abbreviated name of a USA state, give me the  
two letter code for it. So:

Massachusetts => MA
Mass => MA
MA => MA
Foobar => <no such state>

I poked around the site and the apis but it's quite overwhelming. I am  
working in Ruby btw if someone has actual code that would help. Thanks!!
