Hi all,

I wanted to point you to a Freebase powered web-app that a few of us have
been developing to provide 'open source market research' for
biotechnologists. You can find our site at www.bioventurist.com and base at
bioventurist.freebase.com. (Looks best in Firefox for now.) Other
freebasers involved include Rob Warren and Ben Good. We're still in
development but are beginning to look for feedback from various sources and
am wondering if anyone had some input or interesting ideas for the site.

Technically, our site uses the following:

i) Freebase for all data management, and data access via the mql libraries.
ii) Google app engine for hosting.
iii) Django for content management and templating

Besides general data display, we have also included the following
functionalities:

iv) The use of google visualizations for visual analysis of data (eg. see
the 'Market' tab for:
http://www.bioventurist.com/technology/Monoclonal%20Antibody)

v) Use of google maps for displaying geo based info (eg. company locations:
http://www.bioventurist.com/map/). This is currently a work in progress.

vi) RSS feeds using Django (follow
http://www.bioventurist.com/feeds/vcfinancing/ for daily biotechnology
venture updates). The posts for this are generated from an mql querry that
picks up any recent investments added to the bioventurist base.

vii) A twitter feed broadcasting the RSS (http://twitter.com/bioventurist).

viii) And other add-ons like a stock chart using a wikinvest widget (eg.
http://www.bioventurist.com/company/Amgen) and news feeds using google
(however I recently took these down to help debug some IE issues)

We have also been working on data editing from our site, but I recently took
this down as it was largely incomplete and buggy. Otherwise, I've been
piling data into our base and am hoping to increase these efforts in the
near future. If anyone has input feel free to post here or email me
directly.

Thanks for the help!
