The "also known as" property under the topic name is where true synonyms
usually go. True synonym articles are often flagged for merge. Some models
that lump topics of similar subject matter include:

"Geographic feature
category<http://www.freebase.com/view/base/landcover/geographical_feature_category>"
contains generic topics that lump similar topics having formal definitions.

"FGDC metadata <http://www.freebase.com/view/base/mapcentral/fgdc_metadata>"
has properties for both related metadata and similar Freebase topics.

"Taxonomic history<http://www.freebase.com/view/base/litcentral/taxonomic_history>"
describes changes in taxonomic nomenclature.

"Given name <http://www.freebase.com/view/base/givennames/given_name>"
contains a property for variations of the name.

"Cryptid classification<http://www.freebase.com/view/base/mystery/views/cryptid_classifications>"
contains a "similar to" property linked to other crytpid classifications.

"Motorcycle series<http://www.freebase.com/view/base/motorcycle/motorcycle_series>"
lumps similar motorcycle model years.

I guess it depends on how you define the sameness of subjects...
