I'm not sure why you were advised to do that (perhaps to accommodate
merges where your cached topic 'lost' and was deleted but its key
lived on?), but the guid is the only ID that's guaranteed to exist as
far as I know.

You could look for a /en namespace key and, if you don't get it, fall
back to using the guid.
