[Developers] 2 x Merlot

I've noticed that there are quite a few duplicate topics. For example,
'Merlot' exists twice, with the same type, but with different
identifiers. One is more populated than the other, and has a nicer
name, so probably that's the more authoritative one....

I'd initially thought that these two identifiers just pointed to the
same object, a user friendly identifier, and an more stable
identifier, but not in this case. So, if I were wanting to map a name
thing like 'Merlot' onto a Freebase Topic identifier...
algorithmically... which would I pick?.... the one that's not a /
guid/... ?
Sorry if this is an essay question. I briefly looked through the docs,
but couldn't find anything about this. Anyway...
