[Developers] [Data-modeling] new Freebase application online: Thinkbase

Very nice! I notice a few things while playing around with it, though.

1) It doesn't seem to handle cases where more than one property has the same
value. E.g., if you look at the film "Singin' in the Rain", Arthur Freed is
only shown as "produced_by", even though he also contributed music.

2) It might be better to show the properties' display names, rather than
keys, when you mouse over the links -- the key and display name often
diverge over time, and the display name will usually be clearer.

3) It seems to handle co-types idiosyncratically. It doesn't display the
theatrical adaptation of "Singin' in the Rain" (from the "adapted work"
type, or the fact that it received a Golden Globe award (from the type
"award-winning work"). For Gene Kelly, it appears that the properties for
all his film-related types (film actor, film director, film writer, film
producer) are handled by a single link, "film", making it impossible to
differentiate which movies he did what on. His Oscar is also not displayed.

4) I'd love it if, when you dragged a node around on the screen, it stayed
where you put it -- on crowded screens, the lines tend to intersect, making
it hard to tell what's going on. If I could drag the nodes I was interested
around, it would make it easier to tell what was going on.

Subject: [Data-modeling] new Freebase application online: Thinkbase

Hi All,

I've just added a new Freebase application: "Thinkbase"

Thinkbase is a visual navigation and exploration tool for Freebase. The
application is divided into two frames. The left frame displays an
interactive visual representation of the Freebase contents and its semantic
relationships in the form of a graph. Each node in the graph represents a
Freebase article. The right frame displays the corresponding articles in
Freebase. Further features, such as expanding / collapsing nodes and
performing a search in Wikipedia or Google, are accessible through the
context menu (right click on nodes). See the 'About' page for more details.

Here is the Freebase apps entry:

Feedback very welcome :)

Cheers,
Christian Hirsch
