As Andi said, we already rank in order of relevance within a Freebase context. Relevance is calculated based on all kinds of complex stuff (not my field sorry!) but I know a part of it is how many connections a topic has. For instance, the topic http://freebase.com/view/en/bob_dylan is one of the most connected topics in Freebase. Dylan is typed with all kinds of stuff, and has heaps of properties on him. This means that if you search for "bob dylan" he'll filter to the top pretty quickly. If you created a new topic also called Bob Dylan, it would not filter to the top as it wouldn't be well connected.
If you want to find out how well connected a topic is, it shouldn't be too hard to do in MQL (she said breezily, not knowing exactly how to do it, but I'm sure someone here can tell you.)
