I really need this to work in IE -- I can maybe get away with requiring ie 7.0.

right at the moment, (mjt .6) its broke in ie6, and 7.
it also seems, that for ff 3.0, script tags be entered as
<script></script>

not <script ... /> or FF 3.0 would not work.
I ran my script thru xmllint -- to confirm that it would be valid xml
-- and this had
the effect of compressing empty tags -- which I had to undo.

does that make any sense?
