[Developers] "also known as" alias in a query?

Hi
I have tried to get hold of the "also known as" (alias) value in a 
city/town query.

[{"guid": 
null,"name":null,"alias":null,"name=":"Trowbridge","type":"/location/citytown"}]} 
}

But the message returned is:
"Type /location/citytown does not have property alias "

I thought ALL types were meant to have that property?
