Sorry, I missed the intent of the original. I thought this was
individual blog owners manually telling a service to monitor their
pings, rather than every ping from every blog.

If the proposal was indeed "record every ping from every blog", then I
not only withdraw my suggestion that we could catalog the posts, but I
also prepare to kick down the machine room door and shut the servers off
before they collapse in on themselves in an information singularity.

Someday, we may be able to consume 111k writes per hour, but that day is
not during alpha :)
