[Data-modeling] Software for working with the freebase database?

Perhaps it's off topic for this list,  but I'm wondering if there is 
good software for working w/ a local copy the (whole) freebase database.

Currently I've got something that loads the quads into a star schema in 
mysql.  This takes a good chunk of the disk on my laptop and takes a few 
days to load,  but works OK.

Is there anything better out there for exploratory work?
