I'm wondering whether the names of these topics should be more noun- 
like, eg. "Step-child", "Biological parent", etc.  This would mean  
separating the topics for "Biological parent", "Biological child", and  
"Biological sibling", however.

Yes; if we do it, we should try to provide *very* good notice to  
external developers.
