Subject: [Data-modeling] Presidential campaigns
I’ve changed the 2008 US presidential election on sandbox: <URL:

>. It now only lists the declared independent candidates or those who
have been selected by their parties.
It also models the nominating processes as primary elections, even if
they are not strictly a single election. You will find McCain, Clinton,
and Obama contesting their parties primaries, but not yet the main election.
The other challenge is running mates. I have created a co-type of US
Presidential campaign and of US Vice Presidential campaign. You can see
that the selected tickets all have running mates. Only the presidential
campaigns are shown as contesting the election, but if you look at a
politician’s career, you can see his or her bids for Vice President on
an equal footing with other campaigns.
I am also debating whether the party affiliation should be a property of
these campaigns rather than just of the politicians themselves, as,
unlike in most other US races, there is no requirement that the
candidate actually be a member of the party.
Comments? Suggestions?
