Events are rarely (never?) competed only at the Olympics. Events are
typically associated with not only a sport, but also various levels of
governing bodies which have their own competitions and championships.
For example, the men's 3m springboard has NCAA championships in
various divisions, USA Championships run by USA Diving, World
Championships run by FINA, etc.
Any event "category" (or whatever it's called) shouldn't be restricted
to just the Olympics.
