I think "men's 3 meter springboard at the 1932 Olympics" event can be
modeled as an occurrence of the "men's 3 meter springboard" Olympic game
category, by adding a single "category" property to the "Olympic Event"
type. Just like this particular event is part of the "1932 Summer
Olympics" via the "Games" property. This way, the individual
occurrences/events are modeled as individual topics so that specific
data can be entered about the. At the same time, there's an overall
event category that links all of them together so that they can be
viewed and compared more easily via a page not dissimilar to the topic
"Academy Award for Best Director", which congregates all winners of the
same category together on one page:

I'm guessing Olympic game categories ("men's 3 meter spring board",
"women's tennis singles") don't change very often. As long as the
individual games are linked to the category, a congregate page like the
one above can be done easily.
