organizations also have unpaid employees or interns as they sometimes  
call them - with a salary of 0

this is different from volunteer - which i think always implies some  
kind of noble sacrifice no matter how small

an art graduate might work unpaid for a commercial gallery in order to  
gain work experience

the key thing seems to be the degree of self interest
