I created a CVT (similar to what Jeff describes) for summarizing sampling
campaigns that can start, stop, and pick up again over multiple years. It's
still in development but here it is:

Meteor showers and sampling campaigns are but two topics that could use an
"intermittent occurrence" type, so a generic form could be useful.
